What Makes a Community a Great Place to Live

Buying a home isn’t just about finding the right house; it’s also about finding the best neighborhood you can happily thrive in.

Here are six ways to tell if a neighborhood is right for you:

  • The neighborhood suits your current lifestyle

Comfort and convenience begin with the right fit. Consider these examples:

A home buyer with a growing family will find the calm and safety of an established neighborhood as ideal. Being in a highly rated school district is also a plus.

This may not be the case for young, single professionals. A more practical choice would be a midtown condo or townhome. The smaller living spaces and the proximity of the community to their place of work or favorite recreational stops make it the better option.

  • There is a high rate of homeownership

It’s a great sign when most homes in a neighborhood are owner-occupied. Compared with renters, homeowners will invest more effort, care, and pride in their properties. Thus, they are more eager to take partin local groups and events that aim to improve the entire community’s quality of living for the long term.

  • You have access to green spaces and outdoor activities

Parks and gardens provide so many ways to play, relax, or socialize. You can take your family out on a picnic, maintain a regular jogging or biking routine, and enjoy neighborly chats while walking your dog. These are the makings of a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle.

  • There are nearby attractions

There are days when the last thing you want to do is stay indoors. For times like these, it pays to live in a neighborhood with a diverse selection of attractions – from cafés and restaurants to shopping areas, bars to entertainment centers, and places to appreciate culture, history, and the arts.

  • There are emergency services nearby

Access to medical careand emergency services isvital. It pays to have health facilities, ambulances, and firefighters close to the neighborhood you’re in. You can ask, too, about the response time to emergency calls.

  • It’s a walkable neighborhood

Walkability and access to public transportation are key elements of a modern American neighborhood. Walkability refers to the ease with which residents of a community can stroll or walk to key areas and conveniences such as grocery stores, parks, and the like. It also refers to the condition of the roads and sidewalks that allow people to safely navigate through the neighborhood. Walkability promotes a healthier and more environment-conscious lifestyle, just as access to public transportation does.
